Tundra Hut for Leaf Peeping and Birthday Celebration

What a wonderful weekend! We brought a crew and several pups up to the Tundra Hut. Our Subaru's all made it up with the exception of one that got a flat tire. User error, not the cars fault! It did take about an hour to get up going less than 10 mph. The drive was sooooo beautiful so it didn't matter. We had golden roads of aspen in 70 degrees. We were happy campers. The hut is stunning and the nicest any of us have ever stayed in. We were very impressed by the bathroom inside the house and how nice the kitchen was. We grilled and baked several things and everything in the kitchen was very user friendly. Our pups had the time of their lives running up the trail towards the pass. There is a brand new deck with a lovely view as well that isn't shown in the photos. We will be back! Thank you so much wonderful hosts! Highly recommend coming here in the fall!

Thanks so much Molly! Glad you brought the pups, ours love it it too!

Exploring the mountains from the Tundra Hut

We (2 + dog) had a group of 6 people coming over from Europe and wanted to stay in the mountains for a couple of days, doing some easy to moderate hikes. The Tundra Hut is just perfect for that; very large, beautiful situated near tree line in a scenic area. The views are astonishing, and we spotted a moose with its young while eating breakfast! The road to the hut can be somewhat challenging but we had a Jeep which we used to shuttle food and people up and that by itself was already a great experience. Once at the hut you can explore the old mines or start hikes directly from there and we made it all the way up to Grays Peak. The owners, Amy and Tom, are very friendly and caring. So thank you Amy and Tom for sharing your beautiful Tundra Hut, a highlight of our vacation!

Albert, So happy you all enjoyed your stay at the hut! We hope you will come stay again. Best, Amy and Tom

Tranqility and Pow in the CO High Country

I have a group of 10-15 buddies that venture out on an annual backcountry hut/ski trip every year and we usually boil down to 8-10 by the time we all check calendars, balance life/work, etc. This year, we checked out the Tundra Hut! was amazing! We had about 8-10" of new snow before and during the trip and lapped awesome, untouched low angle trees and meadows for days. It was amazing. The basin where the hut sits is the perfect jumping off point for casual or agressive skiing adventures and we had lines for days with not another person in the zone during our trip. The hut itself was easy to warm, comfortable for our crew, great for cooking, sleeping, games around the dining room table, etc. We'll be back! Thanks Tundra Hut!

AMAZING HUT. Fun time sledding, hiking, and enjoying the amazing views! Thanks for a great time!! (Toilet could use more air flow)

Happy New Year-good to hear you have a good time! We recommend making sure the fan in the bathroom is running while you are at the hut. Thank you for letting us know. We will certainly look into it the next time we’re up there. Amy and Tom

As always, we had an amazing time at the Tundra Hut this weekend! A little ladies tour weekend with a boatload of fresh snow for some fun skiing up and around the hut. Tundra Hut is truly a gem in every way - cozy, great utilities overall, and great low angle skiing. Many memories made, so much fun. Thanks Tom & Amy! Can't wait to book again next year.

Great family trip

We had a wonderful time at Tundra Hut. We hiked in through deep snow and wind, so we tumbled into the cabin with relief. It heated up quickly and having house slippers was a nice treat. We enjoyed family time around the large table and built some super fast sledding runs. Wish we could have stayed longer!

Not all who wonder are lost

WHAT AN AMAZING PLACE!!! 7 ladies made the climb in the snow up to the luxurious cabin. On snowshoes and backcountry skis it took us just under 6 hours to get in, and 3 hours to get out. But we spent a lot of time take pictures along the way. The views from the cabin do not disappoint and the accommodations way exceeded our expectations. We were very please with the inside toilet and had no issues during our stay. We only stayed one night, but will be back again for a multi-night trip. In hindsight I could have left my winter sleeping bag at home and just packed in a sheet set and down blanket for sleeping. We kept the fire going all night and the cabin was toasty!!! Thank you to Amy and Tom for building such a great cabin. We love it!!!

Nice Hut!

Our group of friends enjoyed our stay at the Tundra Hut. Love all the big windows and the well stocked kitchen. Great low angle skiing opportunities right out of the hut. Beds were comfortable. The skin in was straightforward. I would go back.

perfect hut for a small private group

This was the perfect hut for our group of five people that was seeking to rent an entire hut for a private business retreat. I think this hut would also be great for a family hut trip. The accommodations were much nicer than I expected --- nicer furniture than what I am used to seeing at other huts. There is tons of natural light. It was really nice to have an indoor toilet --- at other huts you usually need to walk outdoors in the freezing cold to get to the bathroom when you inevitably need to go in the middle of the night. I was pleasantly surprised that every person in our group was able to have their own bed --- the hut has more mattresses than I had expected. The backcountry/downhill skiing just above the hut was fantastic. In advance of our trip, Tom and Amy were in touch with logistical information and answers to our questions --- very attentive and caring owners. I definitely plan to visit this hut again.

bliss is 2 skis, 4 walls, awesome friends, and a cozy fire

The tundra hut is blissful to the max. The hut had everything we could possibly need— space for lounging, a table to fit the whole crew + dinner, cozy slippers (I didn’t know how much I was going to appreciate these until I got to the hut after the 6 mile trek in with raw, hurting feet), tonnnns of bed space. My weekend at the hut was one that will not slip out of my memory anytime soon. Forever grateful for the four walls and cozy space that we got to call home for a night.

So happy to hear you have a great time Carly! Happy New Year! Amy and Tom
